Biography

Dr. Jo Anne Clark was born on August 20, 1936 in Old Hickory, Tennessee. She graduated from Dupont High School in 1954 and attended Nashville Business College where she played basketball. She transferred to Tennessee Polytechnic Institute in 1956. While at Tech, she was a cheerleader, vice president of the Baptist Student Union, on the Eagle yearbook and The Oracle student newspaper staff, ROTC attendant, Tech Choir soloist. She was also involved with the Christian Organization, Intramural Council, and Health and Physical Education Club. She graduated with a bachelors in Health and Physical Education in 1960. Following graduation, Clark worked for the Girl Scouts organizing summer camps for nine years. She worked with the Girl Scouts in Virginia Beach, Virginia; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Heidelberg, Germany. Clark started a M.S. in Guidance and Counseling at Tennessee Tech University in 1969. In 1970, she worked as the Assistant Dean of Women and International Students Advisor at Tech. She graduated in 1971 and took on the role of Director of International Student Affairs at Tech. She earned a Master of Public Administration in 1977 and a Doctorate of Public Administration in 1979, both from Nova University. Clark died on December 25, 2020.
