Biography
Marynell Meadors was born on August 27, 1943 in Nashville, Tennessee. Meadors earned a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education in 1965 and a Master of Science in Physiology of Exercise in 1966 from Middle Tennessee State University. In 1966, Tennessee Tech University hired Meadors as an instructor in the Department of Health and Physical Education.
Meadors worked with other women physical education teachers across the state to create an intercollegiate women's league, the Tennessee College Women's Sports Federation. Meadors coached the Tennessee Tech University women's basketball team beginning in 1970. During her tenure as coach, the team won over 350 games and multiple state and conference championships. The Ohio Valley Conference awarded Meadors Coach of the Year in 1984.
Meadors married and took the last name Hutsell in about 1975. She returned to using the name Marynell Meadors by 1978.
Meadors left Tennesee Tech to coach at Florida State University in 1986.
