Content Description

Records of the Department of Foreign Languages and Phillip J. Campana's written stories of his time as a faculty member at Tennessee Tech University and of a class action lawsuit. Includes a detailed catalog of the materials written by Campana. Records include incoming and outgoing correspondence, photographs, web pages, and reading files. According to Campana's description, the reading files are "supposed to contain one copy of everything written from [his] office" as chair, but they are not complete. Reading files also include copies of the College of Arts and Sciences' annual reports. The introduction of Campana's catalog explains his file numbering system. The catalog provides a detailed summary of the items in the folders and notes on the context of the creation of the items.

Acquisition Type

Records of the Department of Foreign Language were originally created for the administration and functions of the department. After Campana resigned as department chair in 2003, the incoming chair decided to clean out the office and wanted to throw away these records. Campana took these records and culled out some materials ("student salary memos, faculty evaluations, student evaluations, and other documents [he] did not consider of historical interest"). The Tennessee Tech University Archives reached out to Campana in the summer of 2021 after transferring other records from the Department of Foreign Languages. Campana then cataloged the materials. Campana brought the records to the Archives on December 1, 2021.
