Content Description

Two calendars (1965, 1967-1968) depicting female students at Tennessee Tech. Each month has a "Miss" and the female affiliated with the month is pictured. The 1967-1968 calendar is presented by Tech Men's Dormitory Organization and the 1965 calendar has no creator details except that Tennessee Technological University. The 1965 calendar features in order of month: Carol Lowery (cover), Marilyn Crews, Cissie Stuart, Conni Nash, Helen Jarrell, Dee Whitnel, Mary Dosseos, Suzanne Roe, Kay Jackson, Patty Seattle, Sherrie Gas, Katherine Ford, and Ellen Vaupel. The calendar was used by the owner and includes campus events. The 1967-1968 calendar features Susie Harris (cover), Ann Higginbotham, Dee Whitnel, Leann Harris, Donnita Stout, Dottie Brink, Mary Lynne Rose, Linda Hyder, Frances Smith, Patty Stanley, Becky Brown, Judy Patterson, and Linda Tuggle. Don Reese photographed the females for the 1967-1968 calendar. The calendar is dedicated to Richard Sipe, the former president of the Tech Men's Dormitory Organization who passed in an automobile accident. The calendar is unused and contains no university event information. Objectifying college females as "calendar art" by creating "Miss November" or "Miss Pi Kappa Alpha" fraternity was a common activity in the 1950s and later.
