Campus and Buildings, 1921 - 1987

Scope and Contents

The Campus and Buildings series contains records and correspondence to and from President Derryberry about the planning, financing, construction, remodeling, and maintenance of buildings on campus. Buildings documented include student housing, athletic facilities, academic buildings, support buildings, and the President’s residence. Materials include architectural drawings, bids, blueprints, change orders, contracts, dedication programs, deeds, financial assistance program applications, inspection reports, invoices, newspaper clippings, plans, progress reports, proposals, specifications, and copies of Tennessee State Board of Education resolutions and minutes. Topics include the need for more buildings to accommodate the influx of veteran students after World War II, the university’s involvement in the United States Veterans’ Educational Facilities Program, and alterations to on-campus and off-campus housing requirements and visitation policies. The series is arranged alphabetically by folder title, then chronologically by date of creation.
