Biographical / Historical

David "Doc" Narrie was one of the founders of the Tennessee Tech University Rugby Team. The Rugby Team began only as a club in 1976, but was granted recreation status by the University in 2016. David Narrie and other founder, Rick Knowles, were strongly influenced by the Vanderbilt Rugby Team’ coach, Joe Franklin. Vanderbilt also became the team’s biggest rivalry during this time. Their first game was against Benedictine Catholic and they won. Narrie was an agricultural professor at Tennessee Tech.
