Content Description
The Mortar Board Honor Society records date from 1968 to 2008. They contain mainly textual records, such as minutes, awards, correspondence, and various officer’s books. Various issues of the national newsletter for Mortar Board, The Mortar Board Forum, and the adviser newsletter, Mortar Board Ink, are also in this collection. Photographs of events, such as conferences, and from scrapbooks also included, along with two scrapbooks created in the early years of the society.

The Mortar Board Honor Society started at Tennessee Tech University in 1968, as the Gold Circle Senior Women’s Honor Society. They were officially recognized as the Gold Circle chapter of Mortar Board on April 12, 1975. Though originally just for women, in recent years, men have been invited to join as full members, not just as honorary.
As a National College Senior Honor Society, they honor those who exemplify scholarship, leadership, and service. They seek to promote college loyalty, advance the spirit of service and fellowship among university women, promote and maintain a high standard of scholarship, recognize and encourage leadership, and stimulate and develop college woman.

Abstract
