This accession encompasses newspaper clippings related to and correspondence directed to TTU alumnus Thomas L. Burgess, as well as programs for and an invitation to the 1958 TPI commencement ceremony, a book entitled Career for the College Man 1958, and a disposable TTU ashtray. These materials were donated by Thomas Burgess's brother, Dr. Bryan Burgess, a 1960 TPI graduate. Thomas Burgess (1933[?]-9/9/1995) was a native of Sparta, Tennessee who graduated from White County High school before attending TPI, where he studied accounting. He also served in the Army during the Korean War. Burgess was a highly successful businessman. In recognition of his accomplishments, the Business Administration Foundation at Tennessee Tech awarded him the Louis Johnson Outstanding Alumnus Award for 1986-87.
