Legal, financial, and personal papers of the Maddux Family of Jackson County, Tennessee, dating from 1886-1951. The bulk of the Guy Maddux papers document Guy Maddux’s and T. D. Hargis’s administration of Edgar Maddux’s estate in Granville, Tennessee. Includes a 1938 report and settlement of Edgar Maddux’s estate and inheritance tax return form created by Guy Maddux and T. D. Hargis. Other documents were created before Edgar Maddux’s death and detail his financial affairs, such as receipts, letters, a bill of complaint regarding his failure to pay property taxes in 1935, and bank deposit slips. The papers also include a 1899 letter from J. B. Mitchell to George R. Maddux, 1898 and 1903 land deeds from Thomas J. Lee and Tennessee Lee to T. L. Maddux, 1902 land deed from J. F. Duke and Ida L. Duke to George R. Maddux, 1905 land deed from A. A. Ferrell and Hannah Ferrell to George R. Maddux, 1913 decree regarding the case of George R. Maddux against Rudy Maddux, notes on Tennessee and Upper Cumberland region history, undated Mormon pamphlet entitled “A Friendly Discussion upon Religious Subjects. (Compiled from a Work Entitled ‘Mr. Durant of Salt Lake City.’)” by Benjamin E. Rich, 1943 U.S. Office of Price Administration War Ration Book, correspondence about Guy Maddux’s farm insurance in 1951, and correspondence about Guy Maddux’s civil service examination results and grade.
