Content Description
Charles F. (Charlie) Bryan, Jr., (1946-) is the son of Charles Faulkner Bryan (1911-1955). Charles Faulkner Bryan was appointed director of the Tennessee Polytechnic Institute's Music Department in Cookeville, Tennessee in 1935, and was well known for his folk music compositions. This collection from his son, Charlie, includes his father's certificate of service earned for his role as the Assistant State Coordinator of the Defense Council of Tennessee, awarded in 1945 and signed by then Governor of Tennessee Jim McCord. In this role, which his father started in July of 1944, his duty was to direct all war campaigns, act as solid fuels conservation director, and direct the allied relief clothing campaign for the state. The collection also includes twenty-one black and white family photos taken between 1940 and 1958.
