Scope and Contents

The materials primarily date from 1970 to 1986, with the bulk of materials dating from 1970 to 1983. The materials consist of records of the Putnam County Library from 1970 to 1983, book layouts and information, along with pictures used in the book; Clara Cox Epperson’s writings, negatives of the book, along with correspondences and family obituaries. Also included is an article written by Lottie Farr in 1937, along with negatives from Volume 22, Number 2 issue of Homespun, the literary magazine for Tennessee Tech, which contains some of Epperson’s poems.

Biographical / Historical

Lottie Farr (1907-1994) was an English professor at Tennessee Tech University and was part of the College of Education. Her husband, Dr. T.J. Farr, also taught at Tennessee Tech and both were Emeriti Faculty of the University.

She also was involved with the Putnam County Library and was treasurer for the Board of Trustees in the 1970s. Through the Department of English, she edited and copyrighted a collection of poetry by Clara Cox Epperson, entitled Scraps of Verse and Prose from Heartsease.
